Tinkercad is the gateway to the entire Autodesk ecosystem: browser-based, beginner-friendly, and now backed by an official Autodesk certification. Prove foundational 3D design skills before you step up to AutoCAD, Fusion or Inventor.
Issued by Autodesk via Credly on passing the proctored exam.
Tinkercad is where millions of designers, makers and STEM students first meet 3D design. It runs in the browser, has almost no learning curve, and lets you build assembly models, 3D-print-ready objects and electronics circuits in minutes. What it lacked until recently was a way to prove what you’ve learned. The Autodesk Certified Tinkercad 3D Design certification fixes that.
This is the foundational tier, designed for students, educators bringing 3D into STEM classrooms, and anyone wanting proof of skill before stepping up to professional CAD tools. Pass this and you’ve shown you understand part and assembly modeling, 3D printing prep, sculpting and editing fundamentals: the same building blocks the higher Autodesk certifications expand on.
If you’re an educator, this is the entry credential for your STEM class. If you’re a student, it’s the first line on your design CV. If you’re a hobbyist, it’s the proof that turns a hobby into a portfolio.
Education, STEM programs, beginner makers and 3D-printing enthusiasts
A qualification says you studied. An Autodesk Tinkercad credential proves you can turn an idea into a real 3D model, and that changes what happens after graduation.

Schools, maker spaces and product teams want people who can model and prototype, not just talk about it. An Autodesk credential is proof of skill an employer or scholarship board can verify on Credly in seconds.

Interns and apprentices who can already build a print-ready model or a quick prototype get trusted with real design work from day one, and that turns a placement into an offer.

Design and sell 3D-printed parts, gifts, classroom kits or prototypes for local businesses. Clients trust a maker whose Autodesk credential they can check.

The exam runs Live-in-the-Application tasks inside Tinkercad itself: grouping and aligning parts, prepping for print, sculpting and editing. Preparing for it builds the design thinking behind the clicks.

Autodesk is the global standard for design software. An Autodesk-issued badge means the same thing in Harare, Johannesburg, Dubai or London, and it’s the first step on a pathway every design employer recognizes.
The ACU: Tinkercad exam blueprint covers the entry-level workflows employers actually hire for. Here’s what you’ll be tested on.
Build, group, align and combine shapes into multi-part models.
Design with print-readiness, scale and material in mind.
Push, pull and shape geometry beyond primitive shapes.
Modify, ungroup and refine designs through the iterative loop.
Translate 2D ideas into 3D objects using Tinkercad’s workplane.
Apply STEM-aligned problem-solving in a real design environment.

From “I need everything” to “just hand me the voucher”: choose the tier that matches where you are in your prep.
Certification is open to candidates across Southern Africa. You’ll sit your exam at a Certiport Authorized Testing Center, or online if there isn’t one in your area.

50 minutes. The exam contains roughly 30–35 questions mixing multiple-choice, matching and Live-in-the-Application (LITA) tasks where you complete operations inside Tinkercad itself. LITA tasks test real workflows, not memorized terminology.
Certiport recommends approximately 150 hours of real-world Tinkercad experience before sitting the exam. If you’ve been using Tinkercad in coursework, projects or work for a few months, the training and practice tests in the full bundle will fill the gaps quickly. The full bundle assumes you may not be exam-ready yet, which is why it includes both training and a retake.
Certiport releases versioned exams aligned to current Autodesk software releases. You’ll sit the latest available version. The objective domains linked above list the exact coverage for the current cycle.
Tier 1 (full bundle, $135) and Tier 3 (voucher + retake, $99) include a free retake voucher: sit the exam again at no extra cost after the standard Certiport retake waiting period. Tier 2 ($115) and Tier 4 ($75) don’t include a retake, but you can buy one separately if needed.
At any Certiport Authorized Testing Center, or online through Certiport Compass Cloud if there isn’t one in your area. Your voucher is honored across the global Certiport network, and we’ll help you book a sitting once your purchase clears.
Autodesk ACU certifications are valid for 5 years. The Credly badge shows your issue date and the software version year you certified on, so it stays verifiable as a historical record even after the active validity period ends.
Four tiers from $75 to $135: buy just the voucher, add a retake or practice tests, or get the full bundle with everything from training to badge.
